The Truth Behind Anti-Immigrant Fervor

If you want to see someone go from apparently normal to foaming at the mouth in two seconds, bring up the subject of immigration around a conservative. The most rabid of them think that every one of them criminal wetbacks should be shoved in an envelope and FedExed back to whatever banana republic they came from. Never mind that such a program would take years and bankrupt Homeland Security – it’s “worth it” to have the nasty little brown fuckers out of our country.

If you look around, you’ll find that some of the TEA party fanatics want to repeal the 14th amendment so that them there “anchor babies” lose their citizenship and Mommy and Daddy have to go home to spickville. Here’s one of those idiots right here.

Of course, the Republican party – even the RINOs – want all the illegals sent home and want their spawn to go with them. They sure as hell don’t want anything that looks the least like amnesty or a “path to citizenship,” but both of those are code for a simple fear: the more Hispanic citizens in the country, the more votes Democratic candidates will get.

According to the Pew Research Institute, more than 25 million Hispanics were eligible to vote in the 2014 midterm elections, about 11% of the electorate. The numbers have tripled since the Reagan-era amnesty in 1986. This, frankly, scares the hell out of conservatives – hence, their dogged determination to deprive as many as possible of the right to vote. Take away the citizenship of someone born in this country of undocumented parents and you help insure that the government will be in the hands of the minions of the 1% and the religious right for the foreseeable future.

Don’t let them fool you: conservatives don’t give a rat’s ass that so many people are here without benefit of legal immigration. Hell, if the entire population of Cuba were to come here, they’d be welcomed with open arms – not because they’ve been granted “special” status, not because they all speak English (they don’t) – but because Cubans have overwhelmingly voted Republican. No, conservatives would be happy to let undocumented immigrants stay in the country for the duration, but only if they promised to raise their kids in the TEA party.
